Boating & Water Safety
Get certified and learn to safely operate boats and personal watercraft. Instruction emphasizes navigation, laws, ethics, personal safety and the proper use of boats and other watercraft.
Through successful completion of the course including the test, participants will receive their Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Youth Operator Permit. Recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard, approved by NASBLA and MN boating license agency.

Hennepin Water Patrol
Water patrol has multiple responsibilities on over 100 lakes and rivers in the county:
- Search and rescue
- Buoying and marking
- Removing hazards to water navigation
- Patrolling the county’s lakes and rivers during boating season and in winter
- Educating the public about water and ice safety
- Investigating watercraft and water-related accidents and drownings
- Inspecting watercraft for rent, lease and hire
