Elephants & Other Creatures
Enjoy two engaging, photo-rich talks exploring fascinating wildlife research and rare species encounters. We'll highlight conservation challenges, unusual animals and real field experiences during expeditions in Africa and Indonesia.
The first talk will describe a long term study of elephants in Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania, showing the impact that poaching has on elephants and why old females are so important in elephant society. We will also discuss steps being taken to combat elephant poaching. The second talk will be about an expedition to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia to look for rare species of mammals. It will showcase hairless wild pigs, tiny night monkeys with enormous eyes and the rediscovery of a rat species that hadn't been seen for over 100 years.
