Learn through quick studies, exercises and examples that focus on proportions and perspective. This course offers a structured introduction to the skills of drawing using a range of methods that encourage you to look at things selectively, giving you the tools to record your observations. Driver EducationYouth Driver EducationSafeway Driving School has been creating safe, responsible teen drivers for more than 50 years. Minnetonka Community Education partners with Safeway to offer classes that emphasize defensive driving techniques. Instruction: Our program includes 30 hours of instruction, as required by law, in 10, three-hour lessons. Students can start classes at age 14½, obtain their permit at age 15 and license at age 16. The curriculum includes study guides, PowerPoint instruction, videos, discussions, worksheets and interactive software. Classes focus on critical behaviors and attitudes common to teen drivers and prepare them for the Minnesota Permit Exam. Behind-the-Wheel Instruction: Our program includes behind-the-wheel instruction. Students must complete six hours of driving lessons with a Safeway instructor before taking the Minnesota Road Exam. Lessons are divided into three, two-hour private lessons with a responsible, professional Safeway driving instructor. Students can be picked up from and dropped off at home, school or work. Safeway offers convenient, online scheduling for behind-the-wheel instruction. The lessons are given on actual city streets, highways and freeways. It is recommended that students take their first lesson 6-8 weeks after receiving their permit. Lessons should be at least 30 days apart allowing for practice with parents between lessons and can be scheduled with Safeway Driving School. Parent Involvement: Safeway offers detailed information on its website to assist parents with understanding Minnesota laws and requirements for student drivers. Monthly parent information classes are offered online. Parents/guardians will be required to complete Safeway’s Account Verification. Safeway will be sending out an email before class begins that gives detailed information about how to login to the student’s Safeway account to verify and complete contact information and to review and acknowledge our Service Agreement. Need to make up a lesson? Any student that misses a class will need to log on to their Safeway account after they have missed the class, they will then be able to choose an upcoming make-up day option. Questions? ECFE Ready-Set PreschoolSpecialized ECFE CoursesChildren ages 30- 35 months | separating (on parent child day) We recognize that children develop along a continuum and this class is perfect for children who are working towards the independence skills needed for preschool. This unique blend of parent-child time and peer group interaction offers an introductory preschool experience. The child-only day gives your child a chance to interact independently with peers and is led by a licensed early childhood teacher. If you would like an email reminder to be notified when new dates become available, please email the screening office at laurie.harkness@minnetonkaschools.org Early Childhood Screening is required by the State of Minnesota for all preschool-aged children (ages three to five), before entering public school. It is a free and simple check on how your child is growing and developing; it is structured to include fun games that will assess multiple areas of your child’s health and development. Your child can be screened at any Minnesota school district screening office to fulfill the requirement. The one-time screening is preferred at age 3. If your child plans to enroll into kindergarten at Minnetonka Public Schools and was screened in another school district, please email a copy of their screening summary to laurie.harkness@minnetonkaschools.org To ensure a positive experience during the screening: Only one parent/guardian may accompany a child during the screening appointment. Early Childhood Screening is required by the State of Minnesota for all preschool-aged children (ages three to five), before entering public school. It is a free and simple check on how your child is growing and developing, and is structured to include fun games that will assess multiple areas of your child’s health and development, including: Vision, hearing and physical growth Health and immunization history Social and emotional development Fine and gross motor ability Cognitive development Speech, language and articulation Screening supports your child’s readiness for kindergarten and promotes positive developmental outcomes. Screening may also lead to referrals for early learning opportunities. For more information, view the Minnesota Statute here. Early Childhood and Family Education - Ages and StagesCore ECFE ClassesECFE Ages and Stages Classes are designed to foster strong parent-child relationships through interactive activities and educator-led discussions at each developmental stage of your child's life. Join our engaging weekly classes, where mutual support, shared growth, and collaboration embody the spirit of "it takes a village to raise a child." Class Structure: Parent-Child Interaction (First Half): Follow your child's lead during this interactive time. Relax and enjoy learning more about your child's interests through play and exploration. Circle Time: Led by a licensed Early Childhood Educator, this session includes songs, stories, and movement activities. Parent Discussion (Second Half): A licensed Parent Educator facilitates discussions where parents can share the joys and challenges of parenting, problem-solve, and exchange insights and resources. Topics may include child development, emotional regulation, temperament, sleep, toilet learning, and more. Gradual Separation Benefits: Strong adult-child relationships provide young children with a sense of comfort, safety, confidence, and encouragement as they grow more independent. The gradual separation progression in our ECFE classes is an intentional, developmentally appropriate practice that supports the attachment relationship. Join us for the 8th grade East Meets West Party at MHS on Friday, May 8, 7-8:30 pm (please enter through the West Entrance). *****PLEASE NOTE***** ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN INSIDE THE DESIGNATED EAST MEETS WEST AREA UNTIL THE EVENT ENDS OR A PARENT/GUARDIAN IS PRESENT FOR PICK-UP.
