This class uses the Special Olympics sport and play curriculum, and is designed for children with or without intellectual disabilities, ages 2 to 7. Young Athletes provides children with activities and games that meet their individual skill and ability levels, while allowing them to play together in a fun and inclusive environment. Youth Service DayService & LeadershipHere’s your chance to make a difference! Join us for a jam-packed service day. Learn about the needs in our community, develop leadership skills and use your strengths and talents to make an impact. Participants will spend the morning at MCEC engaging in hands-on service activities and projects that support our community. Around mid-day, the group will travel to a local volunteer organization to take part in a meaningful service activity that makes a direct impact in the community we serve. Youth TriathlonYouth TriathlonFor students in grades 2-8 | Saturday, May 16 | minnetonkaschools Middle School East Get ready for the Tonka Youth Tri! A morning of fun, fitness and excitement for young athletes—swim, bike and run your way to the finish line! All triathlon participants receive a wicking t-shirt, refreshments, and a finisher medal. The week after the triathlon, trophies will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in each division. If your child would like to compete in an older age group, which may be more competitive, please call (952) 401-6800 to register over the phone. GPS Routes Available through QR Code Reminders: Bike helmets are mandatory. Athletes will be timed via chip timing for the Bike/Run portion (timed together), and will be timed manually for the swim portion of the event. U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets may be worn in the pool, if needed. No e-bikes are allowed at this event. No dogs are allowed at the event. The event will be held rain or shine. Online registration closes at 10 am on Thursday, May 14. In-person registration will be available at packet pick-up on Friday, May 15th. No refunds or transfers are allowed for any reason at any time including ride cancellation. Volunteers Needed: We need volunteers to help with body marking, directing the participants along the route, helping in the bike corral, or supervising indoors. If you can help, please sign up during the registration process. We recommend that there is a parent or other adult available to help the athlete transition between events if needed; please ensure that there is another adult present at the event if you would like to volunteer.
