Early Childhood ScreeningEarly childhood screening appointments will be released monthly (July-April). If you would like an email reminder to be notified when new dates become available, please email the screening office at laurie.harkness@minnetonkaschools.org Early Childhood Screening is required by the State of Minnesota for all preschool-aged children (ages three to five), before entering public school. It is a free and simple check on how your child is growing and developing; it is structured to include fun games that will assess multiple areas of your child’s health and development. Your child can be screened at any Minnesota school district screening office to fulfill the requirement. The one-time screening is preferred at age 3. If your child plans to enroll into kindergarten at Minnetonka Public Schools and was screened in another school district, please email a copy of their screening summary to laurie.harkness@minnetonkaschools.org To ensure a positive experience during the screening: Only one parent/guardian may accompany a child during the screening appointment. Siblings are not allowed in the screening room, as they can be a distraction. Sick child? For up-to-date health protocol information please visit, Minnetonka SD Health Services. Email or call the screening office if you need to reschedule your appointment.Category

Elementary Cheer TryoutsCheerleadingDiscover the excitement of cheerleading in a fun, team-oriented and competitive setting. Coaches will focus on safety, teamwork, sportsmanship and making positive choices to help athletes improve their skills and prepare for advanced cheer teams in the future. The Elementary Cheer team is designed for grades 2-5 and is focused on fostering development in the sport of cheerleading. Previous cheer/gymnastics/dance experience helps but is not mandatory. The season runs from September - February. Practices are on Monday nights at Minnetonka Middle School East. Participants are expected to fully commit to the team and be present before signing up and becoming a member. The team will perform at school sporting events, community events, and local/state cheer competitions. *Please Note The Universal Cheer Association (UCA) states that participants must attend school within the Minnetonka district to be eligible for this Minnetonka program. To accommodate summer schedules, we are offering 2 sessions of the learning clinics. Both sessions will be the same. During the 2 days of camp, cheerleaders will learn the foundational skills of cheerleading; which consists of tumbling, stunting, jumps, and motions. Your cheerleaders will learn everything they need to know for tryouts. Cheerleaders may attend both sessions, but only 1 is required for tryouts. Tryout Day: Tryout day will be August 13th at MME Small Gym. Each athlete will attend a 30-minute time spot based on the grade they are going into. Athletes will wear white shoes, all black athletic outfit, a bow with low curled ponytail, and red lipstick. The 30 minute tryout will include: Effort & Coachability, Jump lines (double toe touch & pike) Tumbling skill of choice, and Tryout cheer. We judge stunting ability during learning clinics. Tryout Tips: We are looking for strong effort, energy, coachability, the ability to lead a crowd, and a positive attitude. Cheerleaders must be passionate about cheerleading both inside and outside of practice. Cheerleaders are not expected to have material 100% memorized but should be able to demonstrate the majority of it, and know what is being asked. All required material will be taught at the learning camps. Please note divisions are very competitive, and team placements will be as well. Team placements will be emailed by the team coaches.Summer 2026 -

Elementary Rec CheerCheerleadingExplore the sport of cheerleading in a fun, team-focused environment. Coaches will emphasize skill development, safety, teamwork, good sportsmanship and making good choices to become a better athlete. Registration will not open up until Tuesday, August 18th. There will be two rec cheer teams this season: Sailors and Skippers. The Sailors will be our Level 1 rec team that is perfect for beginner cheerleaders, while the Skippers will be our Level 2 team that is tailored to participants with past cheerleading experience. We strongly encourage anyone hoping to register for either of these teams, to participate in our cheer tryouts in early August. Link to Register Here. Priority registration will be given to anyone that participates in these tryouts. While we encourage each participant to participate in at least one of our learning camps as well as the tryout, our main goal is wanting each participant to get comfortable with the tryout process. As a result, if you only prefer to choose one or the other, please pick the tryout over the learning camps. Any remaining open spots for these two teams will become available after tryouts have been completed.Fall 2026 -
